Alton Towers 3D art lift stunt ‘shocks shoppers’

By on Tuesday, February 14, 2012

A stunt created to ‘test people’s likely reaction’ to Nemesis Sub-Terra – a new Alton Towers ride opening in March that takes riders underground – has been covered today by the Telegraph (and only the Telegraph as far as I can tell, despite the fact it’s quite cool – perhaps due to Valentine’s Day stunts and campaigns taking the lions-share of media attention?).

Alton Towers Nemesis Sub-Terra PR lift 3D art

As you can see from the picture, an artist’s 3D illusion gave the impression the floor of the lift had collapsed. If any of you know who the artist was, let us know in the comments. UPDATE: I know now that the artist’s name is Andrew Walker. A quick Google brings up a couple of artists called Andrew Walker, though – and neither look like they do 3D art.

Thanks to Elizabeth West, PR manager at Alton Towers for tweeting with the link to the video below, which shows shoppers opening the doors to see what they at first think is a gaping hole. Brilliant.
