This realtime billboard reacts to air pollution

Auto brand Renault have invented a pollution-triggered billboard that drops the price on it’s electric cars when smog levels rise.

Bucharest, the capital of Romania, is one of the most polluted capitals in Europe and its residents face serious health issues.

When air pollution goes up, the price of Renault’s new electric model (the ZOE) goes down, live on a huge digital display – aka the DisCO2unt billboard.

With many Romanians seeing electric vehicles unaffordable, a creative approach had to be found. So, pollution was turned against itself.

The idea is that the zero-emission electric car becomes more affordable when the city needs it the most.

A giant digital display is connected to pollution sensors around the city which update every six minutes.

An average was calculated which triggers a price discount using an algorithm.

Passers-by can claim the discounted price on the spot, using their smartphones.
