What happened when customers were served battered plastic in a local chippie

By on Friday, November 23, 2018

Environmental charity Plastic Oceans UK served up battered plastic to customers in a local chippie to highlight the threat to the oceans.

The campaign was inspired by research suggests that in 2050 there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

A hidden camera video captures the reactions when punters in a Fish & Chip shop in Blackburn are given a taste of what’s to come.

Dr Geoff Brighty, technical director at Plastic Oceans UK, said: “If we continue at this rate, not only will our beloved national dish be a thing of the past, we’ll be facing other catastrophic problems for our planet. But, there are lots of changes we can make to help. The first step is to avoid using plastic, where possible, or opt for recyclable plastic. We must change attitudes towards the ways in which plastic is produced, used and disposed of, if we are to make impactful change.”
