First World War fallen portraits to be created on UK beaches

By on Friday, November 9, 2018

People will be asked to gather on beaches around the UK at low tide on Remembrance Sunday and “remember the sacrifice” of those who gave their lives in the first world war.

According to the FT “Sand artists will create a portrait of a war casualty on each beach, later to be washed away by the rising tide. Members of the public will be asked to join them in creating ephemeral silhouettes of people in the sand.”

The Pages of the Sea is being overseen by filmmaker Danny Boyle and will mark 100 years since the end of the Great War.
