BBC’s World Cup ad makes history with an embroidered tapestry animation

By on Thursday, May 24, 2018

This week, BBC Sport released a beautiful embroidered animation ahead of the World Cup.

Disregarding the traditional advert route, BBC created a masterpiece in the form of an ancient and artistic tapestry, alongside an accompanying animated film.

Every frame has been individually embroided, drawing influence from traditional Russian tapestries. Illustrations of iconic moments bring to life the history of the beloved tournament.

Along with the feature film, an actual 7-metre tapestry will be displayed in the UK, which will be extended following the kick-off of the games this Summer.

The campaign was created by Xander Hart and Edward Usher, and directed by Nicos Livesey through Blinkink.

A true labour of craft and love
