Barbie have released a special edition Nicola Adams doll ahead of International Women’s Day.

The gold medal-winning Olympic boxer is the first UK star to join the Shero range. She will be the 15th Barbie in the line designed to honour modern-day women, from a myriad of backgrounds and careers, who inspire the next generation of girls.

“I am so excited and honoured to be Barbie’s first ever UK Shero and the first ever boxer Barbie. Having my own Nicola Adams Barbie doll is so amazing and my hope is that everything I do helps more people realise they can do anything they put their mind to,” Nicola said.

The boxer Barbie comes complete with boxing gloves, sports gear with Nicola’s trademark ‘Lioness’ nickname and her distinctive cropped hairstyle.

Although the range is currently not available in stores, Barbie are also mass producing three dolls bearing the likeness of artist Frida Kahlo, pilot Amelia Earhart and mathematician Katherine Johnson to celebrate historically important women.

Mattel have not yet announced an official date of when the figures will hit the shelves but have said that each will be accompanied with some educational information telling each woman’s story.
