Paddy Power offer £50k for Rooney to fight Phil Bardsley in charity boxing match

The Sun’s exclusive (well, until it was Vined seconds later) leaked video showing Manchester United footballer Wayne Rooney being knocked out by Stoke City’s Phil Bardsley was big news at the weekend.

Rooney responded in the best way with this goal celebration:

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power capitalised on the video in a reactive stunt offering a £50,000 prize for Rooney to take on Bardsley in an official boxing rematch, with the money going to a charity of the winner’s choice.

According to the Metro (responsible for the abominable yet somehow endearing Photoshopped effort below), the event ‘would be broadcast live on TV and possibly take place at a famous boxing club in London’.

Odds of 18/1 were being offered for Bardsley to knock Rooney out in the first round.
