In a video that went live today he appears on Hollywood comedian Zach Galafianakis’ occasional spoof chat show Between Two Ferns.

This is a brilliant move by Obama for two reasons. First, it reminds people why they love him, with his easy charm and his ability to judge the level of the snarky sarcastic humour in just the right way. Second, it’s actually a plug for the much maligned healthcare.gov website. Acknowledging the criticism but getting the message out that the website is much improved they’ll get millions of Americans who would have ignored a simple speech or statement to check the website again and help make Obama’s healthcare reforms a success.

Coming so soon after David Cameron’s attempt to banter with Sir Patrick Stewart failed so miserably it’s a welcome reminder that done right humour can really help get political messages out to otherwise unreachable audiences.
