Star Trek Transporter Prank

By on Friday, September 13, 2013

Movie streaming service blinkbox asked us (Taylor Herring) to to help them mark their release of Star Trek Into Darkness this week.

We worked with top illusionist Scott Penrose to perform some cunning teleportation trickery in a London shopping centre and produced a fun video that’s racked up 500,000 views in the first 48hrs.

Shoppers at Westfield looked on in awe at what appeared to be the world’s first successful attempt at teleportation.

It caused a stir among thousands of shoppers, over the day, who witnessed volunteers from the crowd step into a high-tech unit and appear to have been ‘beamed’ to nearby locations in seconds.

The illusion was achieved using a combination of science and trickery. If you stick around till the end of the film you’ll see how it was done (well part of it anyway).

It’s already picked up some nice reactions too..

‘Shoppers had their faces set to stun with unique Star Trek Into Darkness promo stunt…a really cool illusion.’ – Daily Mirror

‘It has no doubt helped to stir up interest in the twelfth installment in the sci-fi Star Trek film’  – Daily Telegraph

‘Watch the brilliant video as members of the crowd dissapear in front of stunned shoppers eyes, then miraculously reappear in random places.’ – Daily Star

The ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ PR machine has been in overdrive recently…But when part of that PR drive includes stunts like this, then who are we to argue? – Huffington Post

‘The prank is an ad for Star Trek Into Darkness being available for streaming on blinkbox but it’s a good one.’ – Gizmodo
