Gods save us: giant dragon skull promotes Blinkbox’s release of Game of Thrones

Sun seekers heading down to Charmouth beach in Dorset were struck with equal parts excitement and terror when they came across a 40 foot dragon skull giving them a toothy smile from the water’s edge.

Sadly, this isn’t proof that great fire breathing beasts have been resurrected by the unseasonal British heat. In fact it’s a stunt from video-on-demand service Blinkbox, advertising the addition of season three of medieval drama Game of Thrones to the service’s catalogue. The show’s more recent series feature three dragons, as well as numerous references to skulls of the animals thought long to be extinct.

The Drum reports it took three sculptors two months to create the skull, which was cleverly placed on Charmouth beach – renowned for being littered with dinosaur fossils.

Blinkbox is keen to promote the availability of the season for streaming, and rightly so. It only just finished its UK premiere on Sky a few weeks back, and it arrives on Blinkbox way before the February 2014 DVD and Blu-ray release date.

It’s a nice idea that focuses on the quality content users have access to, something technology companies can sometimes forget in favour of volume and…errr, technology. And much nicer than a recreation of the season three’s Red Wedding episode. Urgh.
