Telecom NZ encourages phoning home with free Mother’s Day calls (not just for extra terrestrials)

Telecom NZ is encouraging children (presumably of the adult variety) to phone home this Mother’s Day with free phone calls from their phone boxes around the country.

With over 3,000 phone boxes from Cape Reinga (the very north) to Stewart Island (off the south coast of the South Island), there’ll be no excuse not to call Mum and have that all important chat on her special day.

They’ve even decorated some of the payphone boxes to promote the campaign, as well as encouraging folks to take up the offer via Twitter and Facebook. And they employed All Black (and prolific Tweeter) Cory Jane to get in on the action too.

People who take advantage of this are asked to tweet photos using the #callmum hashtag and post pictures to Facebook too. An excellent example of a simple, yet extremely effective PR campaign.

Shame the Ts and Cs wouldn’t allow us ex-pats (or are we ETs?) to phone home too.
