Krispy Kreme gave away 36,000 FREE doughnuts… But it didn’t quite go to plan

Yesterday, Krispy Kreme gave away 36,000 free doughnuts through the UberEats app. Unfortunately, it was only in London BUT the lucky people claiming would be getting a dozen!

UberEats crashes after offering free Krispy Kreme doughnuts

All Krispy Kreme were asking was for the public to download the UberEats app and order from 2pm. Simple enough right? Unfortunately not…

The public were a bit too eager to claim the free doughnuts – well of course – and the UberEats app crashed, meaning that people couldn’t claim their doughnuts.

Now, I love this stunt and of course it would get a lot of attention – you offer people free doughnuts, they tend to pay attention. But it showcased the flaws in the UberEats app, which was then broadcast loudly across all social media platforms and the media.

Great stunt but ultimately a bit embarrassing for UberEats. And I’m still annoyed that it was only offered to people in London – I want free doughnuts!!
