Footballers ‘immortalised’ by convicted art forger in Sky Sports 5 launch campaign

By on Tuesday, August 26, 2014

In a campaign from earlier in the month to promote the launch of (another) new sports channel – Sky Sports 5 – artist and convicted forger John Myatt painted five leading World Cup footballers in the style of celebrated artists of the past.

Myatt served a year behind bars for what has been called the 20th century’s ‘biggest art fraud’, making him a headline-grabbing choice for the campaign, featured by many UK nationals including the Mail, the Independent (a less than complimentary piece, but Sky Sports won’t care), the Metro and the Mirror.

The likenesses of Steven Gerrard, Andres Iniesta, Andrea Pirlo, Cristiano Ronaldo and Arjen Robben are on display at Castle Fine Art gallery in Mayfair from until Friday 12 September. Entrance is free.
