‘The Amazing Spiderman’ creates scavenger hunt via Twitter

The first theatrical trailer for the Columbia Pictures remake of ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ was officially released last week.

Watch it here. Towards the end a hidden message was included. It leads to a site that had six screens of static and the films logo. No one knew what it was until the twitter account ‘mark of Spiderman‘ was created that day. The account tweeted the coordinates for a location.

To this date 11 location tweets have been sent out giving directions across six states in the U.S, provoking fans to go along and find Peter Parkers missing property.

Someone found Peter Parker’s backpack in Atlanta. It was filled with filled with shoes, a sketchbook and other various items. (See the twitter account here for more photos)

The account already has 810 followers and  given Spiderman’s loyal fanbase and comic enthusiasts, I think this is a great way of promoting the film by targeting fans directly via social media. They gain their own keep sake from ‘Peter Parker’ for their efforts, bringing the character to life as well as creating an excitement for the film due for release in summer. It seems that there are more plans for promotion and perhaps even more scavenger hunts, we’ll have to wait and see!
